Build a river stop you will actually use

Build a compact landing with room to get out of a boat, unload supplies and head inland without walking through storage.

A river stop earns its place when arriving there feels easy. Start with a small landing that connects the water to the route you already use. A grand roof can wait; first make room to leave the boat, put down a load and walk toward home.

Choose a bank with an open approach. Paddle toward it from both directions before building. A bend that hides the landing until the last moment may need a marker, while a shallow, cluttered edge may be a poor place for a narrow entrance.

Build the working floor first

Use a pier about three blocks wide and five blocks long, with a small landing on the bank. Treat these as starting dimensions and adjust to the shoreline. Leave one long edge open for approaching from the water. Put posts at the corners rather than down the middle of the deck.

Connect the shore end to a two-block walking strip. Keep a clear space between the water and storage so a friend can pass while you are unloading. If the bank rises sharply, build a deliberate stair up to the path instead of leaving a one-block obstacle at the busiest point.

Boats provide a straightforward way to travel the river. This landing is a building layout, not an automatic docking mechanism. Approach slowly and leave enough open water to turn around.

Give three containers three jobs

Place containers along the shore edge, labeled Unload, Travel supplies and Outbound. The first catches materials from an arriving trip. The second holds food, spare tools or a spare boat. The third collects things you intend to take upriver later.

Barrels work well beneath a compact shelter because they can open with a solid block above them, unlike chests. Face their visible ends toward the working area and keep the labels readable from the deck.

Add the shelter around the routine

Roof the storage strip and a little standing space beside it. Keep the front high enough to see the approach and avoid low decoration where players step off the water. Add a recognizable lamp or pair of posts at the river-facing end.

Finish by taking a short trip with a modest load. Arrive, unload, collect one outbound stack and leave again. Any awkward turn in that sequence is a better thing to fix than an undecorated roof corner. Once the routine feels clear, add the bench, planters or fishing detail that makes the stop yours.
